1:87 Scale model of a single-seat Alcubierre Warp Drive Ship.
The Alcubierre drive is based on a solution of Einstein's general relativity equations, initially proposed in 1994 by Miguel Alcubierre, and subsequently honed and perfected by other physicists worldwide.
This drive allows a ship to travel at superluminal speeds without time dilation by the contraction (or warping) of spacetime in front of the ship and expansion of spacetime directly behind.
The Warp Field is oscillated between the dual toroidal structures to drive down the total energy (including negative energy) budget to a reasonable level. Because the ship generates and propels a bubble of warped spacetime, the ship itself does not at any time exceed the speed of light with respect to its own inertial reference frame. Thus the ship can attain any arbitrary velocity without Lorentz time dilation. Superluminal speed does come with the side-effect of time travel into the past, and the concomitant paradoxes thereof --you've been warned.
While the math checks out, mankind simply doesn't yet have the engineering technology to generate negative energy, nor in the quantities required, but we're working on it.
This small craft, one of the very first built in the late 2100s, was intended as a technology demonstrator for short hops to the galactic center and back. This ship was designed for a single pilot or astronaut no more than 5ft tall. Yes, it's a tight fit in there but with the ship's arbitrarily fast superluminal speed, journeys of any length are completed in a split second, and arrive back at their starting point prior to departure time. (For size comparison, the warp drive technician standing next to ship in the photo is 6ft tall).
Because this ship is inherently capable of time travel, should you choose to place this on your model railroad layout, it would naturally be at home in any era.
Other items in photos shown for size comparison - Not included.
FRAGILE: Scale model is for display only - not a child's toy.
Static model can not be used to actually generate or propel warp bubbles at any speed, nor can it actually travel backward in time.
Recommended age 14 years minimum.
